Payment Links and invoices
A Payment Link is a secure checkout page you send by text or email. Your customer opens it and pays with a card on their own device. You do not need a terminal.
Payment Links work well for:
- Deposits and booking fees
- Pickup and phone orders
- Invoices for completed work
- Customers who are not in front of you
Send an invoice to one customer
- In the Merchant Dashboard, open Transactions and choose to create a new invoice, or open Customers and choose to charge a customer.
- Enter the amount and a description of what the customer is paying for.
- Send it by text or email.
The customer gets a link to a secure checkout page. When they pay, the payment shows up in Transactions.
Create a reusable link
You can also create a link that many customers can use, for example on your website or in a social post.
- Start a new invoice.
- Allow the link to be used more than once.
- Allow a customer-entered amount if you want customers to type in what they owe.
- Copy the link and share it.
Depending on your setup, you can add your own checkout fields, such as an order number, and choose which page customers land on after paying.
Resend or print an invoice
Subscription invoices can be resent or printed from the invoice list in Subscriptions. Invoices show as open, past due, or paid.
Tips for fewer problems
- Say clearly what the customer is paying for.
- Send links only to customers you expect to pay.
- Keep a record of what was ordered, when it was delivered, and any messages with the customer.
- Make sure your statement descriptor is a name customers recognize.
Payment Links are card-not-present payments, so your PCI compliance and dispute practices apply.
